As the conflict between the vice chancellor of Sindh University (SU) and the teachers continues, the teachers announced a partial boycott in all public sector universities in Sindh from February 7.
The teachers announced that from February 7 to February 11 there will only be three-hour lectures. If the government did not accept the demands of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), the teachers will go on a complete strike from February 13.
The association also endorsed the demand of the teachers association of SU which wanted the removal of the vice chancellor, revival of student unions, private security and Rangers deployment for campuses.
Prof Laghari of the FAPUASA, said that chapters of the association from other provinces will also join the boycott after 15 days. Till then the government had enough time to respond to their demands.
The FAPUASA announced this after a meeting on Monday. It was held after a confrontation between the teachers on hunger strike and a rally of the Sindh Peoples Student Federation.
The SU spokesman, Abdul Majeed Panhwar, said that Nazir A Mughal, the vice chancellor, will not relinquish his post. He termed the teachers were protesting to achieve a specific purpose and not for the sake of education.
