With the aim to curtail rising unemployment among young people, a special unit will be established at Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (Szabist), said a press release issued by the institute.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Szabist, Youth Engagement Services (YES) Network and British Council for this purpose on Wednesday.
The idea behind the initiative is to promote knowledge-driven growth in Pakistan and to lift the country’s sagging rank in the Human Development Index.
The unit, Youth Enterprise Generator, will provide access to interest-free credit, business management skills and exposure to local and international peer networks to the youth aspiring to be entrepreneurs.
A number of seminars, panel discussions and talk shows on entrepreneurship will also be held by YES Network to promote young entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship is generally equated to starting one’s own business, but most experts believe it is a lot more than that. Economists agree that entrepreneurship is a necessary ingredient for stimulating economic growth and employment opportunities in all societies. In many developing countries, successful small businesses are acting as engines of income growth and poverty reduction.
Szabist Director Asad Hussain termed the initiative “multi-pronged” and “comprehensive”, one that will enable young talent to play a positive role in economic development.
