Farhan through to semis

KARACHI: Farhan Zaman is now the only player from Pakistan as Waqas Mehboob, Danish Atlas and Nasir Iqbal were defeated in the World Junior Squash Championships 2010 in Quito, Ecuador.

Farhan outplayed Mexico’s Miled Zarazua 11-3, 11-6, 11-9 to make his way into the semi-finals. While the second seed Egypt’s Ali Farag brushed aside Waqas 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 in the quarter-finals.

In the quarterfinal clash, Farhan comfortably secured a win over Miled in the first and second set, but the Mexican soon put up a fight after when he went  up 5-2 in the seventh game, but Farhan made no mistakes to seal the victory 11-9 in the deciding set.

Pakistan top seed Danish faltered against Canada’s Nick Sachvie 12-11, 5-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 and Nasir Iqbal succumbed to Germany’s Rudi Rohrmiller in the 11-5, 11-6, 12-10 in the third round.

Earlier in the third round matches Farhan defeated England’s Nathan Lake 11-8, 12-10, 8-11, 11-6 and  Waqas beat India’s Karan Malik 14-12, 11-8, 11-5.
