Commonwealth Games: UK waives tax for 2014 Games

LONDON: Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and other overseas athletes will not have to pay British income tax if they compete in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, encouraging big names to participate in the event. A similar waiver is also in place for the London Olympics. “I’m pleased to announce this exemption for Glasgow 2014, which will spread the long-term benefits into Scotland,” said Treasury Minister Danny Alexander.
