The University of Karachi has decided to award doctorate degrees to 12 students after the Board of Advanced Studies and Research met on Saturday. More than eight theses were approved for a Master’s of Philosophy (MPhil) degree.
The subject of chemistry and its allied subjects appeared to be the most sought-after by the students as more than half of the PhDs went to this field. However, only one PhD and one MPhil went to the social sciences, signally that they are neglected areas in Pakistan.
The doctorates will go to Muhammad Safdar and Rozina Khattak in chemistry, Tafheem Malik, Afshan Naz, Zeba Sohail, Sadia Zahid and Huma in biochemistry, Zamarud in botany, Saqibur Rehman in mathematics, Marium Iftikhar in biotechnology, Sadia Aijaz in Islamic learning, and Humera Naz in Islamic history.
