SIALKOT:

Like other industrial cities of Pakistan, the dejected industrialists of Sialkot have planned to take their case against crippling electricity load-shedding to the corridors of power in Islamabad and will meet Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar on Tuesday next week to discuss a possible solution.

The Sialkot industrial community argues that extensive load-shedding in industrial cities will lead to a sharp decline in exports of the country and the government should exempt export-based industries from the outages.

“Sialkot is facing over 16 hours of load-shedding which has severely hampered production activity in export-based industries,” Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Naeem Anwar Qureshi said.

He said this while talking to chairmen and representatives of different trade associations of the city who gathered to chalk out a plan to get their voice heard over load-shedding.

“Sialkot needs just 110 megawatts of electricity to run its export industries without any interruption, something that is possible to do for the government for the sake of country’s exports,” Qureshi said.
