ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Athletics Federation (PAF) President Major General (retd) Akram Sahi has announced that he will contest the elections of the country’s Olympic association, scheduled to be held on February 4.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). President Islamabad Olympic Association (IOA) Brig (retd) Arif Siddiqui was also present at the occasion.

This marks the first time in the history of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) that two retired generals will contest the elections for the post of president. The incumbent Lt General (retd) Arif Hasan is contesting for the post for the third time. However, according to some officials, Sahi has the support of the Pakistan Army, and it has been learnt that Hasan has been asked to relinquish the post.
