Flood damage: Survey on causes of flash floods

NAUKOT:
A 10-member team, headed by Engineer Munir Ahmed Abbasi, began surveying the rain-affected areas to find out why the flash floods occurred during the monsoon of 2011. It was found that illegal encroachment prevented the rain water from draining from Dhoro village. It was also found that in many cases landlords occupied government land and cultivated it. Residential colonies were also built on the old course of the Indus River in Dhoro. According to the survey of 1968, the river course was 380 feet wide but encroachments reduced it to between 30 and 50 feet.
