KARACHI:

Four armed men robbed the cash van of the private money exchange company in Block 17 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

According to the police, the men, on two motorcycles, stopped the cash van and snatched about US $24,000 at gunpoint. The men took the rifles of the security guards away with them before they fled.

SHO Zawwar Hussain Shah said that the security guards also shot at the men but missed because their guns did not work properly. He said that the guards were detained because the police suspected their involvement.

Shah said, while replying to a question, that he could not say anything about the involvement of terrorist groups. The police tried to get the closed-circuit footage from the route. He said that the police were still waiting for anyone to register a case with them.

A similar incident occurred earlier in November last year, when a security guard was killed and two others were wounded when five motorcyclists robbed Rs15 million in cash from a van in Korangi. The police are still trying to find a lead to solve the case.
