Money matters: Man clubs wife to death

Mukhtar killed his wife for not getting money from her parents.

A man clubbed his wife to death after she failed to get money from her parents when he asked.

According to police officials, Baghay wala resident Siddiqa Kausar married Mukhtar Shah three years ago and the couple quarreled frequently over finances.

“He always pressured her to take money from her parents and she insisted that they were also poor and could not afford to support her after her marriage,” said Siddiqa’s cousin Ameena Bibi.

On Monday afternoon, Mukhtar went to Siddiqa’s parent’s house to bring her back home after they had quarreled a few days ago. “She initially refused to return with him and then he began taunting us for not giving her any money,” Siddiqa’s mother Razia Bibi told reporters.

Razia told reporters that she convinced her daughter to reconcile with her husband and return home with him. Siddiqa took her one-year-old son and returned home but Mukhtar allegedly assaulted her with a knife and she died a few days later.

Hospital officials said that Siddiqa was brought in on Monday in serious condition. “She had dozens of bruises and cuts and she had internal bleeding,” said Dr Rehmat Khan. Siddiqa was shifted to Allied Hospital where she died and Mukhtar fled the area with his son.

Police have registered a case after Siddiqa’s parents filed a report demanding custody of their grandson.

The search for Mukhtar’s whereabouts is currently underway.
