KARACHI:

Fasih Khan, Faizan Ahmed Khan, Zahoor Ahmed Baloch and Ahmed Bawany along with 92 other cueists moved into the next stage of the Sindh Cup, hoping to book a place in the top-eight who will compete with the province’s top eight players in the knock-out round that begins from January 17.

The qualifiers for Sindh Cup began on January 9 with 192 cueists who will play five rounds before the elite knockout round – the last-16, which will feature Khurram Agha, Mohammad Ishtiaq, Farukh Usman, Javed Ansari, Abdul Samad, Vishangir, Mohammad Akmal and Kashif Khan.

“Sindh Cup is designed to get the best talent from the province,” Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association President Alamgir Sheikh told The Express Tribune. “We allow amateur cueists to compete in the qualifiers. It serves as a talent hunt for us and promotes the sport in Sindh. Most top cueists we’ve found have come to us through these competitions.”

The knock-out round will begin on January 17 and the event will end on January 22.
