LAHORE: More than 5,000 policemen would provide security cover to observances in the city during the Chelum of Hazrat Imam Hussain and urs celebrations of Data Gunj Baksh.

This was announced by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir on Sunday. The CCPO said that police officials have been directed to maintain surveillance at hotels, bus stands and other public places.

CCPO Tahir has directed officials to deploy extra police personnel at entry points of the city.

He also ordered for parking stands and checking points to be made at a safe distance of preferably 200 metres from the venue during both processions.

He said that crisis management centres have also been established to work round the clock, to coordinate with other safety and security agencies.

Tahir also directed divisional superintendents of police to monitor security arrangements in their respective areas.

He said he would also personally make surprise visits to check the arrangements.

Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain will be held on January 15 and the three-day urs celebrations of Hazrat Data Gunj Baksh will begin on January 13.
