LAHORE:

Punjab University Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran has expressed concerns over decline in PU’s ranking.  In an interview on Sunday, he said he was determined to improve the university’s ranking through de-politicisation of the campuses and by promoting research culture.

He said pressure groups, student organisation, teachers or employees would not be allowed to violate discipline.

“We will not tolerate use of pressure tactics by any political group or illegal organisation,” he said.

Dr Kamran said some political elements were provoking some senior teachers and a student organisation for their vested interests.

“During my tenure as VC, I managed to curb illegal activities of Islami Jamiat Tulaba. They could not freely organise their activities on the campus, as they used to do in the past.”

He said during his tenure, the Higher Education Commission’s ranking of PU had improved to the 4th position. This, he said, was achieved through university research publications whose number had increased from 269 in 2010 to 750 by November 2011. He said that the university had produced more than 100 PhDs every year during his three-year term.
