FAISALABAD:

Doctors and paramedics at Jhang district headquarters (DHQ) hospital boycotted work and closed the out patient department on Saturday following a clash with relatives of a patient.

Doctors said Relatives of Rani Bibi started beating the medical officer of the ward, Dr Asif Raza, following an argument over the number of attendants allowed with patients.

They said Rani’s relatives were asked to leave the ward as a senior doctor was about to come to examine the patients. Also, they said, only a couple of people are allowed to stay with patients at any time.

“They refused to listen to the doctor and instead started beating him,” a paramedic said.

He said medical officer Dr Raza was dragged and locked inside a room beside the ward.

A number of doctors from other wards gathered at the scene and announced a boycott of work until action was taken against the people who had assaulted the medical officer.
