Fir Registration: Iqbal Town SHO fined by court

SHO failed to register the cases despite numerous visits and court orders.

LAHORE: Justice Ijaz Ahmed on Friday imposed a fine of Rs35,000 on the Station House Office of  Iqbal Town, Lahore for failing to register an FIR despite being ordered by the court to do so.

The judge ordered the SHO, Qamar Abbas, to pay the fine to the petitioner, Luqman Sardar, who had to bear expenses of petitions and had to make numerous trips to the police station for registration of the FIR. Sardar had filed a petition submitting that an additional district and sessions judge had ordered the SHO to register FIR on his complaint.

Sardar said that the SHO failed to register the FIR despite repeated requests and orders of the court. He said that he had been approaching the SHO to register a case against a robbery at his house in Iqbal Town.

He submitted before the LHC that the SHO was not paying heed towards his applications and was not reacting to the court orders either. Sardar claimed that the SHO had been deliberately violating court orders as he was favouring the accused. He requested the court to issue directions to the SHO to register the FIR and initiate contempt of court proceedings against the SHO.

At this the judge not only imposed the fine on the SHO but also issued directions to the Lahore Capital City Police Officer to initiate a departmental inquiry against the SHO and report to the court within one week.
