Contempt: Model Town officials summoned for not following court orders

Model Town officials failed to implement court orders for demolishing walls blocking routes to Kot Lakhpat market.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday issued summons for the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Model Town and Secretary Market Committee after a contempt of court petition was filed against them for failing to obeying court orders to demolish walls constructed around Kot Lakhpat fruit and vegetable market.

Petitioners Chaudhary Yaseen and others contended that Model Town local government officials were not following orders issued on December 27, 2011.

The court has directed AC Irfan Memon and Secretary Market Committee Abdul Waheed to demolish the walls and reopen all entry and exit points leading to the Market. Petitioners submitted that the government did not open all routes of the market despite the court orders.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will resume the hearing on Tuesday, January 03.
