Further education: KMDC to start interviewing selected MBBS candidates today

Previously, they allocated 100 seats for MBBS and 50 for BDS.

KARACHI: Interviews for candidates who cleared the admission test and got through the initial selection round for the Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) are scheduled to be held today.

Selected candidates for the MBBS programme will be interviewed from 10 am onwards at the Principal Secretariat at KMDC located in Block M, North Nazimabad.

The interviews for Bachelors in Dental Science (BDS) candidates will be held at the same time and location on Tuesday, January 3. A notification issued by the KMDC asked the candidates to appear for the interview with their original documents.

Previously, the KMDC was allocated 100 seats for MBBS and 50 for BDS but after their requisition was accepted by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) the number of seats has increased by 150 for MBBS and 50 for BDS. Presently, students are competing for 250 seats in MBBS and 100 in BDS at KMDC. The requisition for increased seats was made by KMDC about two months back says Principal and Chairman for Academic Council at KMDC, Prof. Waqar Kazmi. However an official notification, by PMDC for the increment was not issued till December 27.

Out of the total number of seats, MBBS and BDS, 245 are on merit while 105 are self financed. Breaking it down by programme of the 250 MBBS seats 175 are on merit while 75 are self financed where as of the 100 BDS seats 70 are on merit and 30 are self financed.

Other public medical colleges such as Dow University of Health Sciences and Sindh Medical College offer 350 seats each while Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari  allots 100 seats for MBBS.
