Pakistan railways: On our way to recovery, says Bilour

The railways have floated tenders for purchase of 150 new locomotives.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour said on Friday that the government is making all possible efforts to improve Pakistan Railways’ efficiency. “Pakistan Railways is taking all necessary measures to ensure improvement and efficiency in services across the country,” the minister said. The railways have floated tenders for purchase of 150 new locomotives while tenders for 75 more engines will be offered shortly, he revealed. He said, 221 faulty locomotives will be made functional by January 10, 2012. The minister regretted that during the last 25 years no government paid any attention to improve the financial health and infrastructure of this sector.

Pakistan railways cause of deterioration is its being nourished by the government along with PIA, steel mill in Karachi, WAPDA, oil gas and other entities in which government has sought interest.
