PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday directed that all the accused in the murder of a rape victim’s brother be charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act and quashed the second inquiry report.

PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan ordered the police that the charge sheet against the accused in the Karak rape and murder cases, including police officials nominated by the victim’s brother, should be immediately submitted at a Kohat anti-terrorism court.

The CJ has reappointed DIG Idrees Khan and his team to re-investigate the cases and present the final report till January 12, 2012. He has also assigned the murder probe to DSP Takht-i-Nusrati, Mina Naseeb Jan, and directed district and session judge Karak, Home Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Akbar Khan Hoti to supervise the investigation.

The first inquiry conducted by DIG Idrees had recommended action against the police for their failure to investigate the rape case and officials in whose presence rape victim, Sakina’s* brother Jahanzeb was shot dead on court premises.

The PHC has directed that Sakina and her family be relocated to a safer place in Peshawar. CJ Khan has also asked the registrar to send the victim’s video to Karachi to enhance its quality and produce it before the court.

Sakina, while talking to media persons after the court proceedings, said, “I want justice. My brother sacrificed his life for me but all the accused persons still pose a threat to us.” They threatened to blow my house up, she added. Sakina’s brother Zafran said everyone had turned against them and Jahanzeb’s grave had been desecrated.
