Cops & Robbers: Constable booked for aiding son

A police head constable was arrested for aiding his son in a robbery incident on Tuesday.

A police head constable was arrested for aiding his son in a robbery incident on Tuesday.


According to area residents, Chak 220RB resident Umar Farooq and his father Muhammmad Tufail were intercepted by two robbers who snatched their mobile phone and stole Rs1,150 from them. The same robbers also stole a cell phone and Rs1,000 from Mohallah Altaf Ganj resident Muhammad Ali Tahir at night and escaped from the scene. Kotwali District Superintendent Police (DSP) Muhammad Ameen Bhatti, Inspector Rana Umar Daraz and Sub Inspector Liaqat Ali rushed to the crime scene and questioned the victims. Police officials traced the accused and during interrogation they discovered that Muhammad Haneef, who is the father of robber Adil, was a police head constable and was also aiding his son in the robbery. Police officials have arrested head constable Muhammad Haneef under Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on charge of abetting the robbers. Police have recovered stolen property and further investigation is under progress.
