Citing unnamed US and Pakistani officials, the newspaper said officials acknowledge this deterioration will complicate the ability to launch attacks against extremists based in Pakistan and move supplies into Afghanistan.
US-Pakistani relations took a serious hit last month after a series of US air strikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers near the border with Afghanistan.
A joint US-Nato investigation concluded that a disastrous spate of errors and botched communications led to the deaths. Pakistan has rejected the findings.
The United States will be forced to restrict drone strikes, limit the number of its spies and soldiers on the ground and spend more to transport supplies through Pakistan to allied troops in Afghanistan, the report said.
United States aid to Pakistan will also be reduced sharply, the paper noted.
"We've closed the chapter on the post-9/11 period," The Times quoted a senior US official as saying. "Pakistan has told us very clearly that they are re-evaluating the entire relationship."
American officials say the relationship will endure in some form, but that the contours will not be clear until Pakistan completes its wide-ranging review of the November incident in the coming weeks, the paper pointed out.

I've never understand why we don't live without american support, why we don't believe on Allah Almighty... and then we claim that we are Good Muslims, what is this??
Yes it is coming out now ' the re evaluation / re framing of the foreign policy with US must be in the better interest of country and people.
oh no not again. we can survive America's enmity not friendship. God help Pakistan.
@Hu Jintao:
Unfortunately, it will not work that way for PAK. There are many in the US who consider PAK to be a sponsor of terror.
As PAK assess it relationship with the US, the US will do the same. The US will view PAK as being as being a some times ally to being a nation which actively undermines its efforts.
There are very long term implications for PAK which I hope have been considered before arriving at the point where relationships now stand.
Hi are you all also fed up with billion and billions of US dollors.the most ungrateful nation around ---- this is called as pakistan
Pakistan and US should make the best of their relationship as the common man in both the countries is good at heart and they are basically same. If their was no corruption, every citizen would have benefitted. Let peace and friendship prevail for the good of humanity for both countries.
.
@Harry Stone: I don't understand how it will be in interest of US, but if it is then its good since Pakistan's interest coincides with it.
simple just maintain normal basic relations.
@Hu Jintao:
You are making an assumption that is in the interest of the US
So if the relationship is changed, then there is no one left to blame. Is there is success in war on terror it belongs to Pakistan, if there is faluire, it also belongs to Pakistan
It is time for Pakistan to learn to survive and stand on its own feet. People have so much, that they do not need Uncle Sam's money at all. We will not die of hunger as we grow what we need. Only less than one percent people (high ups having assets abroad) will be effected. Poor people will remain poor with or without Uncle Sam's "DOLLARS".
but what about theee aid!!! :'-(
@Ab Wasay:
I fail to understand why the politicians are blamed when they never had any power. No politician or political party had been in real power for more than one year. Beyond this one year, the military had always managed sneak back into power and rule the country indirectly. Every Dictator came to power with explicit promise to hand back the power to another civilian government in three months but have stayed on in power for 10 years.
Even on the much disliked Drone attacks, the Army was not against the Drone attacks but it wanted the technology to conduct its own drone attacks. When the technology was refused they started opposing the attacks. This is the reason US was able to conduct drone attacks for so many years as the Army was hopeful that it shall get the technology one day or other, until things changed for ever after the OBL raid.
The situation reminds one of the last days of the previous NS government, just prior to Musharaff's take over.
Whatever America does, all burden is due to our politicians. They made the decisions viewing their personal benefitts and let America do ''hell'' in Pakistan. all the consequences bear by people, noway to blame America, correct ourselves, our leaders must fair with people in all policy matters.
@naeem hussain: India knows its strategic priorities and its too big for US to manipulate. Recent deal on MMRCA is an example. We are still keeping US at arms length given their history of unreliability..Ours is not a banana republic...But India does keep an eye on China when dealing with US and other western powers..
just two TALAQs means still room left for last chance good luck guys.
There must be something very special in Pakistan that US would do anything to stick around with us.
As long as our military establishment treats India as existential threat, Pakistan will remain hugely dependent on America. If another Kargil or another Mumbai terror attack happens, where will our PM go for diplomatic leverage against a rising and more confident India? We can't replace US with China in our power equation vis-a-vis India. This will be a strategic mistake, if we try to do it in the near future. If the US and EU declare Pakistan as a terrorist state (which they may do sooner than later, if our establishment remains belligerent) and ban our exports, the Rupee will plunge to 200 against dollar. This will be enough to disintegrate Pakistan. They can do it even without firing a single shoot.
congrats its a good news for us pakistanis:))
It will be a Blessing in Disguise for the Pakistanis. The benefits of US’s financial aid never reached the masses, instead the corrupt politicians/bureaucrats /technocrats used that to accumulate more wealth.
Crush America? Earlier in 1970 and 90s it used to be Crush India? Who in Pakistan has so many crushes on countries? I though Pakistans biggest crushes were on KSA and China...
@FatCheck - What free lunch are you talking about? The public never saw a dime of any thing . . .the flood victims are still without help sufferring and the target shooting goes on. This has been the worst time for the common citizens let alone clean water??
@dar: Far too long , Americans have taken us for granted….
Its not an matter of being taken for granted, but more of the mercenary policies & actions of Pakistan's Rulers, that has been a root cause. Its going to be very testing year for Pakistan to survive economically, without Aid or Loc, as that perhaps may have helped to obtain further loans from IMF or ADB.
Great... We want a limited relation with US.. It will be hard for us, as our Exports are mostly to US. But we can progress and things will be smooth...
Good news!! I hope that this limited relation turns into no relation at all. In past 64 years of our existence there is no relationship bcoz of which we suffered so much.Our human cost is too great to overlook. Ther are villages in FATA which have been orphaned.One may ask was it worth it to become party in killing of innocent civilians so that Americans can call us allies?
US finally accepting reality of pakistan rather than wishful thinking.
@faraz: If you read my post again, I said it to limit our relationship to trade and consular services. thats it.
I'm pretty sure we can get along this way.
Great! Billions saved. No more free lunch for Pakistan!
@Faraz stop srying, if US doesnt want to buy our towels someones else would at a cheaper price..
Yes you are right no American,Israeli or Indian support for terrorists will definitely help Pakistan to root out terrorism from our country. @ashok sai:
Now marriage of convenience relationship has been established with India you recognize it or not. Learn the lesson from Pakistan before it is too late for you. Do not think that you are very smart and America can not harm you. @R S JOHAR:
@Hu Jintao
US is our largest trade partner. And we dont export life saving drugs. They can cripple our export based industries anytime
Repeat of the Soviet war in afghanisan. When the war was coming to an end, America started pressurizing Pakistan and calling it a terrorist sate and then finally putting sanctions on us. Sadly, same thing is going to happen now
Reduce American embassy to the size of normal villa and limit it to only consular and trade services no aids, no "technicians" and no boots
Believe things will start to get better
Far too long , Americans have taken us for granted.....
Oh thank God for that. This nightmare relationship ends at last. Congratulations to all Pakistanis!
The news says "The United States will be forced to restrict drone strikes, limit the number of its spies and soldiers on the ground and spend more to transport supplies through Pakistan to allied troops in Afghanistan". So the US would limit the number of spies and soldiers on the ground in Pakistan! All these years the establishment has been claiming "no boots on the ground". In fact there would still be boots on the ground but less. The US supplies would be going through Pakistan but at a higher fee. So, all the agreements with Gen Mush and his military govt would not be fully honored anymore.
Pakistan-America was a marriage of convenience which is under-going a separation phase now and would ultimately end up in divorce.
We are fed of relationship and alliance with us on war terror.we need to end this chapter too. coz of this our long term Economy will effect.
From now on, its Pakistan's 'War on Terror', no drone strikes to flush out militants inside its borders.
