LAHORE:

The Interpol has issued a red notice for a Pakistani citizen, wanted by Lahore police for triple murder.

A senior officer told The Express Tribune that police have dispatched the notice to the High Commission in UK, and will soon send a team of policemen to arrest Muhammad Khalid Mir.

North Cantonment Sub Inspector Ashiq Hussain, the investigation officer (IO) in one of the two cases against Mir, said he had obtained Mir’s travel record from the Federal Investigation Authority’s immigration office. He told The Express Tribune that on June 25, 2011, Mir, an expatriate Pakistani, shot dead three relatives and injured another over a property dispute in two attacks in North Cantonment and Naulakha. Hussain said Mir fled to UK immediately after the killings and has been living there.

The IO said that the apparent motive behind the killings was Mir’s disputes with his two sisters’ families over property. He said Mir was staying at his mother’s house in Mohalla Dara Shikoh in Naulakha. Following the death of one of his sisters, he demanded his share in the property, she had inherited from their father and which had been transferred in his nieces’ names.

Hussain said Mir had had frequent arguments with his nieces and on June 25, 2011, he shot his nieces Faiza, 24, and Hina, 22. They were taken to a hospital, where Faiza succumbed to her injuries and murder case was registered against Mir at Naulakha police station.

Inspector Arshad Kahloon, in charge of investigation at Naulakha police station, said that Mir then went to his second sister’s house on Tufail Road, where he had an argument with her husband, Khursheed Anwar. Mir shot Anwar and his brother, Mazhar Saeed, who had tried to stop him. The injured were rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Double murder case was therefore registered against Mir at North Cantonment police station.

Anwar’s widow, Ruby, told police that he also had wanted to grab her houses in Gowalmandi and Naulakha. She said her husband had tried to stop him, but he killed him and his brother.

Hussain said that Mir left the country on June 29 fleeing to UK and was declared proclaimed offender by the court at the request of the police.
