Development: Gomal Zam Dam to irrigate farmland, control floods

LAHORE:

Gomal Zam Dam will significantly contribute to socio-economic development of the country, particularly the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as the project will provide water for irrigation, control floods and generate low-cost electricity.

Water and Power Development Authority Chairman Shakil Durrani said this during a visit to the project site in South Waziristan Agency of Fata.

Discussing the benefits of the project, Durrani said the dam would store 1.14 million acre feet (MAF) of water, irrigate 163,000 acres of land and ease the threat of floods.
