Naheed Durrani appointed special secretary finance

KARACHI: Naheed Durrani has been posted as the new secretary of Planning and Development for the provincial government. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah holds this portfolio.

For the last two years, Durrani served as special secretary of finance. She happens to be the chief minister’s daughter. According to a notification issued on Friday, planning and development secretary Aurangzaib Haq has been transferred.

He was asked to report to the federal government. Meanwhile, Ghufran Memon, who is special secretary for the home department, has been posted as special secretary finance and Mushtaq Channa has replaced him.

Official sources said that earlier on, Durrani, who is a grade 20 officer, helped her father when he held the reins of the finance department. This portfolio is now managed by Murad Ali Shah.

Durrani is a CSS qualified and said to be one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the present set-up. A bureaucrat who did not want to be named said that many people in the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party had complained that Durrani did not oblige them.
