LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of a case and imposed a Rs50,000 fine on a Shaikh Zayed Hospital doctor calling the petition she had filed against her three colleagues baseless. Dr Shazia Khwaja had sought cancellation of promotions of Dr Yasmin Shah and Dr Asifa Abbas, both from the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department. Dr Khwaja had said that the two doctors were promoted despite ‘poor’ annual confidential reports. She alleged that the promotions were granted while neglecting the rules and procedure of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). At a previous hearing, the court had sought record and a reply from the hospital chairman. The reply, submitted in court on Wednesday, denied the petitioner’s allegations stating that the promotions were made on merit. Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan then disposed of the petition declaring it baseless. He also imposed a fine on Dr Khawaja for wasting court’s time.
