LAHORE:

Doctors at public hospitals across the province will able to communicate with Children Hospital after the setting up of a satellite link at the hospital soon, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced on Friday. He was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day international symposium, Preventing Childhood Disease: Are We Losing the Battle, at the Institute of Child Health.

The chief minister said that the facility will enable doctors to seek guidance from specialists at the Children Hospital.

Sharif said that the roadmap for this purpose will be prepared by the next two weeks. He also announced setting up of a state-of-the-art Organ Transplant Institute in Lahore next year.

A trust has been established for the construction of the transplant institute, he said. He commended the role of the doctors at the Children Hospital in helping the patients and information seekers during the dengue outbreak. He also thanked the Sri Lankan expert, Dr Fernando, who was also present at the symposium.

Children Hospital Dean Prof Tahir Masood said that the hospital has been hosting the symposium for eight years. “Experiences shared by foreign doctors who attended these symposiums have helped local doctors learn how to better handle difficult situations.” He proposed an extension of the hospital facility.
