Last week was a mixed bag of birthday bashes and nostalgia. Adding another year to their age might not be the happiest feeling for some actors (especially female) but most, at least pretend to see the good in aging as they plaster on smiles while blowing out candles.

December seems to be the birthday month in Bollywood with actors Sharmila Tagore, Shatrugan Sinha, Dilip Kumar and Dia Mirza all adding on another year. After receiving a flood of good wishes, Mirza took to Twitter to reply, “Thank you all ever so much for your thoughtful messages. Overwhelmed and grateful for the love I am bestowed with. Turning 30 is fab.” The former beauty queen-turned-actor-turned-producer celebrated her 30th birthday on December 9.

Meanwhile, Bollywood’s legendary actor Dilip Kumar, who was 89 on December 11, decided to become more tech savvy and join the Twitterati bandwagon on his big day. The thespian joined the micro-blogging site and Amitabh Bachchan was the first to welcome him. “Thank you all of you who have made my simple life so rich with all your love,” Kumar said in his first tweet. This was just one little part of the birthday celebrations as the legend also threw a bash to which many of the industry’s biggest names turned up.

While it was celebrations for some, it was nostalgia for others. The past week also marked the 10th anniversary of the mega family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), which film-maker Karan Johar remembers with fond memories. “K3G completes a decade today, the illustrious cast and brilliant crew made my biggest
celluloid dream possible,” Johar posted on Twitter. The film was a hit not just in India, but in international markets as well, and struck a chord with people of all age groups due to its fun, emotional and romantic moments.
