Twitter alert

Express July 24, 2010

One would think a social networking site would be for just that, socialising and networking. But Twitter has also become a battleground for Bollywood celebrities who are using it to settle scores.

In the last month, four major online spats among celebrities broke out. Ram Gopal Varma and Karan Johar sniped at each other and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt argued with couple Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi.

On the other hand film critic Rajeev Masand and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan were at loggerheads and Shobhaa De’s online barbs infuriated Sonam Kapoor and I Hate Luv Storys director Punit Malhotra.

But this week, every celebrity was absorbed in their own little world. We present the best tweets of the week.

Ellen DeGeneres

Simon Cowell and I had an interesting relationship on “American Idol”.

The greatest luxury of being a woman is getting your hair done.

Conan O’Brien

Just read that Facebook has reached 500 million users.

In English, Nelson Mandela’s given name Rolihlaha, literally means “troublemaker”. Funny, given that he’s anything but.
