Killings in court: 13 policemen arrested for ‘negligence’

RAWALPINDI:

Thirteen of the 15 policemen charged with failing to protect three under-trial suspects in district courts’ premises were arrested here on Wednesday.

The Civil Lines police arrested them after Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Tariq Mehmood rejected their bail pleas. One suspect, Constable Muhammad Qasim, avoided arrest as he was not present in the court premises at the time.

The last suspect, Sub Inspector Asghar Ali, was granted bail as the court believed he had sufficiently shown that he was present at his duty and tried to arrest the escaping killers.

The police officials are being charged with negligence and not trying to save the three suspects that were killed on November 12 by their rivals.

The other policemen are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Sher Muhammad, SI Shafqar Mehmood, Assistant Sub Inspector Amir Alam Niazi, Constables Waheed Akhtar, Tahir Mehmood, Muhammad Adnan, Raja Nazim Hussain, Adil Sheraz, Asad Yar Khan, Tahir Hussain, Zaffar Iqbal, Muhammad Nazim and Abid Khan.

The case against the 15 police officials was registered on November 21 following an inquiry carried out by Senior Superintendent of Police Rawalpindi Operations.
