The Vehari executive district officer (Education) on Saturday ordered an inquiry against a primary school teacher into the allegations of beating a student because the child could not go over an unassigned lesson.
The EDO has suspended the teacher from service until the inquiry is complete.
Mohammad Anwar, father of the fifth grade student, quoted his daughter as saying that the teacher had insisted that the girl go over a lesson which had yet to be taught in the class. He said the girl had a swollen thumb when she returned from school.
The teacher, however, denied that she had beaten the child.
She said the child was known to be quite mischievous and must have injured her hand while playing.
The medico-legal report states that the swelling was caused by an injury to the soft tissue. It has ruled out a fracture.
