Crackdown: Carjackers arrested, vehicles recovered

HARIPUR: Owing to a sharp increase in car thefts, the Haripur police raided a house in Kahal Bala village on Thursday and arrested a gang of car lifters, police sources said. According to the police, they received a tip-off about the gang’s hideout and arrested seven carjackers, besides recovering six vehicles and a motorbike which were stolen from different parts of Haripur and Punjab. A huge amount of spare parts were also recovered from the house, the police added. The arrested were identified as Tahir alias Mithu, Muhammad Nasir, Ghulam Akhtar, Muhammad Zubair, Habibullah, Nazar Ali and Sher Afzal. According to sources, the suspects confessed to stealing vehicles and selling their spare parts to local junk vendors during preliminary investigations. The police expects more disclosure from gang members remanded in physical custody.
