The Sindh Police Inspector General Mushtaq Shah (IG) increased the security at Rohri and Khairpur, after surveying the cities on Saturday. Shah inspected the routes of the main processions and said that both cities are susceptible to criminal activities.
A procession was held in Khairpur on Sunday, while the Muharram 9 procession will take place at Rohri, today.
According to Sukkur SSP Saqib Ismail Memon, more than 800 policemen and 150 Rangers have been deployed at Rohri and barbed wires have been installed to seal all routes to the city.
Security measures also include walk-through gates, CCTV cameras and control rooms in Rohri and Sukkur, to monitor the movement of the procession.
A large number of participants, including women and children, attend the annual procession, which starts early morning from the Masjid Shah-e-Iraq. After passing through Karbala road and Lala Shahzado Chowk, it halts for 6-hours at Mando Khabar in Rizwani Muhalla.
The procession resumes in the afternoon, passing through Shahi Bazaar, Chabotra Chowk, Memon Muhalla, Wichoro Chowk, and ends at Haider Shah Haqani.
