The report quoted a Pakistani military official, while talking to The Sunday Telegraph, saying that the US gave wrong information to the border coordination unit about a suspected Taliban position before the attack while seeking clearance from the Pakistani side to carry out the attack.
"The strike had begun before we realised the target was a border post," he said. "The Americans say we gave them clearance but they gave us the wrong information."
The report said that the American pilots were confident that the site was a Taliban base as it was checked with a Pakistani officer that there were no friendly troops present in the area.
According to the report, the Nato troops realised that they had attacked a Pakistani checkpost instead of a Taliban hideout only after dawn.
Pakistan’s relations with the US and Nato have turned cold following an “unprovoked” Nato attack on a Pakistani check post on the Pak-Afghan border which left at least 24 soldiers dead and 12 injured. Pakistan says that the attack was unprovoked, and Nato continued their attack even as Pakistani forces requested them to stop.

Thanks Mr. Obama for your this information. This is your old habit and old habits always go hard that you don't admit your mistakes and don't confess aerial violations of any country and you think it your basic right to attack any country on the name of fake terrorism and when terrorism grows on large scale to a great degree in the world by your aggressive actions then you blame and accuse only muslims of it instead of securing and protecting your own country by living within USA.
Both sides are saying that it was a mistake. But none is revealing the origin of the mistake.
Islamic Republic of Pakistan??? United States of America???
The people will never know the real story.
It was not "delibrate".
There will be no personal excuse from OBAMA, the democratically elected president of US, the Zardari, elected by the governing establishment (national and provincial assemblies) of Pakistan.
Pakistan has lost its Honour as well as the Blood Money. The slave will keep on serving the master.
The 24 Pakistani soldoers lost their lives. For their families it is not a hoke.
The issue that will continue to create and cause such problems like the shootout at the checkpost is the decision of Pakistan to give refuge to militant groups that keep crossing the border and causing violence in neighboring countries. Pakistan must learn to value all human lives equally, use of non state actors and proxies for gaining strategic depth will only cause DEATH of both Pakistani citizens and others alike. Without addressing the problem a durable or workable solution will prove elusive. This does not mean we must remain silent when lives are lost. Afghans losing lives to Taliban violence are also valuable lives as are those of Indian citizens to LET terrorists. Selective condemnation of violence is meaningless from a human perspective.
@Cautious: You are right, it was a mistake. Who's mistake, we don't know yet. One thing is sure after the statments from both sides it was not a delibrate attack. The US has nothing to gain with this attack on isloated posts.
I have no doubt in my mind that the bombing was a delibrate act carefully planned by NATO and Americans to teach a lesson to Pakistan.
@Cautious: just like indian political & military leadership portrays that Pakistan is behind any bad incident in india.
It is a bit hard to believe this report by the army.
If there was a mistake in the coordinates I am inclined to believe it was made by the PAK personnel
The plot thickens.... from outright denials about giving permission, now it appears somewhere along the communication chain, wrong coordinates were approved. Now the question is whether this was a mistake on the part of the Americans or the Pakistanis who misread/misunderstood or simply could not be bothered to double check the figures ? Knowing the level of "professionalism" in Pak army, my money is on the latter. Second question, if fault is with Pak army will anyone ever be court martialled and the results made public ? Heaven forbid, if a general is found guilty. Mostly like some simpleton captain or major will take the rap.
Another American lie exposed. I am waiting for next "leak" from US that Express Tribune will dutifully carry.
I think US and NATO allies need to consider their thought about Pakistan. other wise situation will goes as bad as 9/11 or more, for save world it nesecerry. without Pakistan help they can not win this war.
@sadhu: - sadhu, china will be the next to "benefit" from friendship with pak
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: With allies like Pak does one need enemies?
Another report based on "Anonymous" sources.... Is this "Journalism"???
In essence they gave heads up for the NATO attack. So whats all the hue and cry about? If the army of a 180 million nuclear armed nation cannot kill a couple of terrorists and has to ask foreign organisations to do it than who is in the wrong? The foreign organisation who acted after seeking permission or the army who gave the permission?
what ever may be reason , pak soldiers are dead .You can't be brought them back to life. USA will sustain some how , but pak won't be in a safe position . USA has started leaving the air base without a but . But remember that there are always a silence before storm . Pak has been taking slow poison given by USA till now and signs are visible in these small incidents. Storm is on the door . Pak can't escape from its history of helping USA against USSR and its wrong deeds in the past . Again some like china and Iran are pouring oil to flame by their lip service and these wolves desperately want pak to separate from USA and giving it a political background . Pak needs to remain cautious , because USA is not going to leave pak after spending billions and trillions . Best option available for pak is to maintain a safe distance from USA and not to separate so abruptly .
“The strike had begun before we realised the target was a border post,” he said. “The Americans say we gave them clearance but they gave us the wrong information.” . If correct then it would appear to be an error -- one might question why every political and military leader in Pakistan portrayed this incident as an intentional sneak attack by NATO.
Pakistani soldiers are killed on this side of the border and poor Afghan nationals are killed on the other side. Who is the enemy?
We have lost 24 precious lives & they conveniently call it an 'error'. Shame on you.
@Abu Muhammad:
Shame on you to say that it is shamefull to say that I am from Pakistan. You must say that there are some problems . every country had some in fact have many. but i am proud to be a Pakistani. Also these killings were not there before your arrival in the region . Never try or think low about your homeland yaar at any cost. It is the people that is the problem not Pakistan or being Pakistani.
Yes ... maybe we can make an error and send a few Nukes towards Afghanistan?. Americans blame everyone else for being irresponsible... how about showing some responsibility themselves before killing innocent civilians and their Allied soldiers. There are Humans dwelling outside of US too....!
@Abu Muhammad
If Pakistan had the best army then it would not need nuclear weapons, the "best army" would have been deterrent enough..
@Abu Muhammad: don't be ashamed go back to Pakistan and do something for it to be proud of !!!!
If only Pakistan had not given such leeway to the NATO forces in the first place.
Instead of protesting against NATO and USA, we being Pakistanis should protest against GHQ. Why did they provide airbases to NATO for drone attacks, why are they allowing NATO logistics to be passed through Pakistan, why have they allowed CIA to build the biggest Station outside US in Islamabad. Now why they are vacating only Shamsi Airbase, why not the two other bases. Why Govt. and Military are protesting at the deaths of soldiers only, why don't they cry when civilians are being targeted by Drones and other means. What about the ground intelligence provided by Pakistan's ISI for drone attacks inside tribal areas.
How is your feeling when you are living abroad and listen such as news, that NATO force attach on Pakistan (nuclear capability, best army and huge spending money on army) terrority and killed officers and solideries. People speak that where are you, I feel shame to tell them that I am from Pakistan.
@shahid: A nation is dead when its subjects are are morally dead....you appear to be in the same category..so blame yourself instead of your nation. A nation is as alive as its citizens are alive...morally, mentally.
Surly! Pakistan will take Blood money (deeyath) and then allow the american to continues their activities as usual and will cooperate them as fast friend.
Alas! We are dead nation
emphasized textThe strike had begun before we realised the target was a border post,” he said. “The Americans say we gave them clearance but they gave us the wrong information.
The matter of the fact in reporting is that Pakistan Army has infect given clearance of attack. If that be so, why a Ghariyatmand Nation has given permission of attack to ISAF in its territory? This brings out the fact that it is not only the drones but active forces are also involved in fighting within Pak territory with aid of Pak Army.
simple another false accusation by USA newspapers. CIA, USA and NATO(North Atlantic Terrorist Organization) should Stop making new story everyday with their media and accept that they deliberately attached Pakistan Army because Pakistan army is not accepting all their demands.
Everyone know that USA and NATO(North Atlantic Terrorist Organization) are spreading terrorism in the world as their own interest and agendas.
......and the plot thickens.
It was evident right after the killing of 24 army soldiers at Mohamad Agency check post that these army personnel were killed by US helicopters.
The unfortunate part is that Pakistan is the first ally in US war on terror and US has killed our soldiers.
Though President Obama knows about the case but he is reluctant to tender an apology to government of Pakistan and on the same hand US and his allies are compelling Pakistan to attend the Bonn conference.
The matter of intentional killing is now being admitted as an error.
What don’t US come up that killing of Pakistani army soldiers is a collateral damage in US war against terror.
Unless US President will not apologies with Pakistan, nothing will move even an inch ahead.
Is it the picture of the Pak Army soldiers fighting the terrorists or facing the NATO soldiers???
Very smart indeed!!
the question is mr. general, why would u allow americans to kill anybody inside pakistan.... infact not anybody u allowed americans to kill thousands of civilians thru drones........ now when u get the taste of ur own medicine, u start yelling.... they wronged ??
drones are acceptable but not helicopters.... corpses of civilians are acceptable but not of those in uniform..... what justice.... plz realize muslim blood, infact human blood s human blood
