“Up until now, they have sadly refused to back efforts for negotiations with the Taliban,” Karzai told Der Spiegel weekly in comments reported in German and due to be published on Monday.
The Bonn meeting will seek to chart a course for Afghanistan after the Nato withdrawal, but a boycott by Pakistan has dealt a stinging blow to hopes for a roadmap.
Pakistan is seen as vital to any prospect of stability in the war-ravaged country a decade after US-led forces ousted the Taliban, which had offered safe harbour to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
But Islamabad pulled out after the killing of 24 soldiers in Nato air strikes on two Pakistani posts in Mohmand Agency a week ago, although sources close to the German foreign ministry said it would be kept informed of progress at the conference.
Karzai also appealed for continued aid to his war-ravaged nation after 2014 – when Nato troops are due to pull out.
Stressing that Afghanistan will be “more than ever on the frontline,” he said: “If we fail in this war, which threatens all of us, it will mean a return to the situation before 9/11.”
The Afghan leader conceded that “sadly we have not been able to provide security and stability to all Afghans, this is our greatest failure.”
Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rasoul appealed on Saturday for international support for his country after Nato troops pull out.
“After 2014, we will continue to need long-term support from our friends in the international community,” Rasoul said at a discussion forum in Bonn.
His German counterpart Guido Westerwelle vowed at the forum that the world would not abandon Afghanistan, while also stressing the importance of the role of women in the county, where they currently face major discrimination.
In an interview to appear in Sunday’s Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Westerwelle again voiced his regret over the Pakistani boycott of the conference, which will gather delegates from 100 nations. “Pakistan has more to gain from a stable and peaceful Afghanistan than any of its neighbours,” he said.
In Bonn on Saturday, several thousand people – 4,500 according to organisers – demonstrated in protest at the conference and the German army’s role in Afghanistan.

The guy has some guts....though closer to insanity....truth is that his survival is based on US presence in Afghanistan and he would want them to stay there at any cost.Who knows...NATO attacks was his handiwork. He claimed to help Pakistan if US attacks her...where is he now...and who is going to believe him any further?Only fools with biased minds against Pakistan will cheer him.
What else would you expect from Karzai. The fellow likes to blame all of his own problems on Pakistan because he doesn't want to take ownership of his own corruption and incompetence. Until Pakistan can deal with a more stable and sane leadership in Kabul, there is no point in dealing with the Afghan administration which are nothing but lackeys of the Indians.
@Pakistani Pakistan is both important and impotent. Important since it has a penchant for creating trouble in the area. Impotent because it cannot do anything on its own without taking permission from some foreign power.
Impotent since it cannot protect its own soldiers from enemies both internal and external. It cannot protect its own Naval base. It cannot protect its state guest, Osama. It cannot take kashmir inspite of repeated attempts. It sells off a part of Kashmir to please its newest master China. Where was the Ghairat when Pakistan sold Aksai Chin to China
Karzai's government , which is seriously venemous against the Pakistan army , is a serious problem for Pakistan. He badmouths us at every international opportunity. He has made sure to use India against Pakistan.
In other words, he is Pakistan's biggest enemy out there.
We is it that US and Afghanistan negotiate with Taliban and Pakistan is ordered to kill Taliban. kia yeh khula Tazad nai?
@Ali Tanoli: How can a nation of 185M be impotent?
So Pakistan wants negotiation with TTP and not with Taliban.
Afghanistan wants negotiations with Taliban and not TTP??
Who's on who's side.
@Ali Tanoli: Because you are pretty much the home of every single country's enemy. That line also purposely ignores the imagined enemies you think exist.
Does this man ever talk sense?
As expected all fault is due to Pakistan. Maybe NATO should wear bangles in Afghanistan.
Hamid Karzai has been too insulting of Pakistan and favorable towards India- a country which was complicit in gross injustices against Muslims in Kashmir and Gujrat. I'm not saying I endorse the Taliban firm of government but it is America Saudia Arabia and Pakistan that created them to fight the Soviet Occupation. My point is Hamid Karzai has Been so anti Pakistan and blames Pakistan for everything and is now begging Pakistan to support him. Why should Pakistan?
First we need to solve our own problems that we are currently facing, then we need to take care of our neighbour country. We need to kick out all terriorst from our areas and focusing on stabilize pakistan rather than playing games in another countries.
If you want to save Pakistan: Fence the border, kick all refugees to afganistan, shut down NATO and withdraw from NATO war. Shut down all trade transit till they meet the terms of our participation.
btw aren't the Tabilans terrorists and as per rules of engagement, their should be no negotiations with Terrorists :)
and the Mayor of Kabul reads the transcript handed him by the US & CO :)
@Ali - you mean impotent or important? There is a difference between the two...
@Ali Tanoli, No one is saying that Pakistan is not important country. That is your wrong conclusion. That is typical mentality of Pakistanis. In too much love of Pakistan, our brain stop function & start calling right things wrong to the extent that we forget that we are muslim but only Pakistanis. So by sponsering semi literate mollas to run Afghanistan while killing our own mollas with F-16s & tanks(like in Lal masjid or FATA & Swat & Malakand), where do we stand. If munafaqat is the way go, then wish you & your country Pakistan the best of luck. By the time every masjid in Pakistan is Masjid zarar, then you would know the real importance of Pakistan. A few more Zaid Hamids & Yousaf Kazabs, Pakistanis will get there.
First of all the Taliban don't want to negotiate with aanyone... they re winning plain and simple... u don't negotiate when you're smelling blood
hahaha... what a hypocrite you and your govt is. "Pakistan's absence doesn't matter" by your spokesperson http://tribune.com.pk/story/301557/pakistans-absence-in-bonn-conference-wont-make-a-difference-kabul/ and now you are regretting. Mr karzai what do you think you are. We ll make your uncle sam to bow to our terms n conditions. we don't even think that you are president of Afghanistan.
Did you ask us before waging a war against them?
Pakistan will not negotiate with anyone. time to do tauba. Great khair is coming.
india should not interfere in the matter of afghanistan and balochistan .even majority of the baloch are now with pakistan......where were indians at the time when america was not in afghanistan???
“Pakistan has more to gain from a stable and peaceful Afghanistan than any of its neighbours,” - Guido Westerwelle
No sir, what Pakistan needs right now is some introspection into our own failings as a society, possibly as a viable country and to recover from the ravages of the War On Terror. In the meantime we need to send back all Afghans residing within our country and ask them politely to take their Taliban friends with them; close the border after that...barb it, mine it..if we can afford too, heck take a loan if we can't but keep these wonderful people on the other-side of the Durrand line.
To the Taliban, the Taliban sympathizers - Good luck creating your Islamic state and playing Call of Duty, Counter-Strike (take a pick) with your Afghan and Nato friends...the Islam in Pakistan before your crap was just fine for me.
P.S If there are any Pakistanis who still want to have some say in Afghanistan aka Strategic Depth (a misnomer..IMO) - Send me a postcard from Kabul.
@fahim: Pakistan doesnt have time to listen to puppets like Karzai. Pakistan will do everything to protect its own national and strategic interests in the region.
I guess Pakistan decided not to support Kerzai any longer he can't cop with taliban alone by him self as soon as americans leave his govt will collapse and Pakistan don't want to go against taliban which are already on most parts of Afghanistan .
No doubt Pakistan knows that it wouldn't miss anything by not attending the conference on Monday. Ever since the first conference on Afghanistan in Bonn 10 years ago, and after 8 conferences little improvement had been made in Afghanistan. It's doubtful if anything of significance will emerge during this conference.
Yes Sir, you are right, we not longer want to feed snakes, who turns and bite you no matter how much you feed them and please try to arrange to take back the baggage of of 3.5 million snakes living on our land ASAP
Dalla!
Pakistan is not importent country in the riegen then why they calling too much???????
Mr. Karzai is playing an ideal game with global community, drug money, money for rebuilding afghanistan, Money from India to trouble pakistan, blaming pakistan for all the troubles in afghanistan, seeks pakistan's help to stablize his country at same time blames us for playing double game. his guy is too good for himself to make whole world stupid. he is playing double game with America -India- Pakistan and most of all Afghans...do not give damn on what he says we should focus on our problems then joining the league of global masters.
why do we keep playing these games? why cant we solve issues rather than create trouble everywhere?
