Democracy Under Threat: Kashmir PM hits out at conspirators

Majid says that remnants of dictatorship wanted to disrupt the democratic system in the country.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Azad Jammu & Kashmir Chaudhry Abdul Majid on Friday condemned the conspiracies against the democratic elected government and said the Sharif brothers wanted to come into power through backdoor channels. He was addressing a news conference at the National Press Club along with his cabinet members and PPP leaders. Majid said that remnants of dictatorship wanted to disrupt the democratic system in the country, which would also harm the Kashmir cause and struggle of the Kashmiri people for independence. He said the PPP and its leaders always sacrificed for democracy and country but Nawaz Sharif had run away from the country after signing an agreement with a dictator. Majid said that Nawaz had come back to the country from exile through the efforts of late Benazir Bhutto but unfortunately he was again conspiring to derail democracy and trying to weaken national institutions. He said that people of AJK stood by President Asif Zardari as he had taken a bold stance on the Kashmir issue.
