PML-N ready to cooperate with govt, military: Nawaz

PML-N chief says administration should first withdraw from all agreements Musharraf inked with the US.

HARIPUR: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) says it is willing to cooperate with the military and the government if the two agree to rescind all agreements that former military ruler had signed with the United States.

Calling the policies of Pervez Musharraf “anti-Pakistan”, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif said the former dictator was the root cause of all the threats Pakistan is facing today. He was speaking to media persons on Friday at PML-N leader Pir Sabir Shah’s residence in Sirikot.

Nawaz said he had suggested at an all parties conference earlier this year that the government scrap all “secret agreements that Musharraf had signed with the US”.

Parliament has lost its credibility because it has not been able to take up issues regarding Pakistan’s sovereignty, not only that, but it has not managed to ensure the implementation of its previous resolutions either, said the PML-N leader.

“Had Parliament been strong and discussed the conspiracies being hatched against Pakistan, we wouldn’t have felt the need to go anywhere else,” he said, adding that the lurking threats to the country’s sovereignty forced him to move the apex court in terms of the memogate issue.

Nawaz stressed that he had no political motives and neither did he or his party oppose any institution, however, he said he did plan to expose all elements conspiring against the country.

Regarding independence of the judiciary, the PML-N chief said, “We believe an independent judiciary is imperative for a strong democracy. The judiciary is as independent today as it was in the past, because there are no dictators around to send assemblies packing.”

Criticising the current setup, Nawaz said the incumbents are no more than a “failed” government. Responding to a question regarding the en bloc resignation of the PML-N parliamentarians, he said there was no such plan at the moment, and if there was, he certainly wasn’t aware of it.

Regarding the Hazara province, Nawaz said he was in favour of new provinces and hoped that the smaller units would help address people’s problems at the grassroots level.

The PML-N chief quashed the notion that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s popularity was increasing. “The parties that are a product of the establishment cannot bring about a revolution,” he added.

Nawaz Mian you really are acting as one who is left out and stuck in a corner. No wonder you don't let any opportunity passes you by without getting a grenade from you in hopes of bringing the current government down. This time will be decisive for you or the government, really.
