Automatic weapons: Customs nabs illegal arms consignment

Customs collector says arms dealers tried to import automatic weapons.

The Customs Department has registered criminal cases against an arms dealer and their clearing agents for trying to import illegal automatic weapons.


Dr Asif Mahmood Jah, the additional collector for customs at Allama Iqbal International Airport, told a press conference that FDAS Arms Dealers had through clearing agents Bilal Associates filed a goods declaration for 350 semi-automatic Zigana and Zigana-63 pistols imported from Turkey. However, customs officials sent samples for appraisal and inspection and found that the 230 Zigana-63 pistols were actually automatic.

The guns, valued at Rs2,106,328, were confiscated and a criminal case was registered against Yar Muhammad and Noor Zaib of FDAS Arms Dealers and Bilal Saeed and Muhammad Khalid of Bilal Associates.

The additional collector said that the Customs Lahore Branch Investigation and Prosecution Branch was conducting further investigations.

He added that two first information reports (FIRs) had also been registered in other cases related to the import of illegal arms and ammunition, against Sultan Ali Khan of Mallick & Sons, Syed Irfan Ali of Outsight (Pvt) Limited, Shahzada Khurram Khan of Outsight (Pvt) Limited and Shams Nasir Pirzada of Naveed Cargo.
