Commenting on the incident on Twitter, Rasmussen said in a series of successive tweets:
“Deepest condolences to Pakistani families, government and people following regrettable incident at border.”
“Wrote (to the) Prime Minister of Pakistan - deaths of Pakistani personnel are as unacceptable as the deaths of Afghan and international personnel.”
“Isaf is investigating to determine what happened at Afghan-Pakistan border. Lessons will be drawn to avoid such tragedies.”
“Nato strongly committed to work with Pakistan to improve cooperation. We have joint interest in fighting cross-border terrorism.”
An early Saturday morning attack by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) helicopters killed at least 24 security personnel and injured 12 soldiers on a Pakistani check post in Salala, which is located in the Tehsil Bayzai area of Mohmand Agency on the Pak-Afghan border.
“This incident has my highest personal attention and my commitment to thoroughly investigate it to determine the facts,” said General John Allen, commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) on Saturday.
“My most sincere and personal heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of any members of Pakistan security forces who may have been killed or injured,” he added in the statement.
The United States has been told by Pakistan’s military leadership to evacuate a logistically key airbase it operates in Balochistan – Shamsie Airbase – within 15 days. In addition, Pakistan’s fury was driven home with an official statement that it will shut down Nato supply routes operating through its territory – something that has happened for the first time, though supply routes have previously been temporarily blocked unofficially following similar attacks.

Foolish, rubbish, ridiculous and nonsensical this hypocritical statement given by NATO chief. Now you have lost your credibility and trustworthiness in the Pakistani nation's sight and your these hypocritical words can never heal up the Pakistani nation's wounds and injuries. This has been your old habit that on one side you kill innocent Pakistanis and on other hand you apologize because you know very well that Pakistani leaders can be deceived easily by using such these types of hypocritical words but now not.Now your hypocritical policies about Pakistan especially about Pakistani muslims have been clearly disclosed and displayed before the muslim world.
Your Tweets and empty apologies won’t work, as a head of NATO how about stop talking in circles admitting your fault and then getting all NATO countries to gather having them empty out their wallets and compensating $100 million (That is one hundred millions dollars) to each family, just as you would have done it to your own people as citizens of “civilized countries” if they had ever landed in the same situation.
SALAAM
WTH.... he is tweeting.....!!!!!!!!
@Sane: America bombed Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia in 1999. Google it.
@abdalian27: First learn to punish those Assets of yours, who have caused Mayhem in the neighbouring countries, than ask for any actions from others !!! Set an example first, then others will follow !!!!
The US and NATO forces are involved in crimes against humanity and therefore liable to be prosecuted according to the international law.
Sending tweets cannot make the dead Pakistan Army personnel alive.
When this incident occurs, NATO chief was sleeping. Pakistanis know very well how to awake people who sleep while they are on duty.
I back the decision taken by the Government of Pakistan. We should not back out from the firm decision taken by the government.
The US and NATO forces should go back to their barracks. When do not want such armed forces who are the killers of our innocent soldiers.
Both the US and the NATO have to pay the price.
No appologies plz,Punish those who are responsible for this incident.
Dude..your country is begging for a lifeline from the IMF..the PKR is at historic lows and the economy is growing(?) at 2%.
tweeting wont do it...get out of Afghanistan now.
This War is Bankrupting them. Withdraw all supports whether its logistic or Human. Let them fight alone with the Afghans. They will the picture. Such a superpower and in 10 years could not even conquer Afghanistan and maintain Law and Order. This is mere out of frustration of that defeat which already occurred. They must accept it and leave Afghanistan. Nothing will defeat Afghans but further Bankrupt NATO and the USA. They can keep denying as British did before them but reality is they have already lost the war. Attacking Pakistani troops will not reverse this defeat which has already happened in Afghanistan for US and NATO.
Wow, Its just amazing how one can simply TWEET the condolence. I cant even imagine the ruthlessness of these people. When will we and our so called leaders understand???
..Body Of Lies..
Today the president of United States Barak Obama did four video conference calls to the General John Allen commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) about investigations but at the end they will use only one sentence .. * It will Repeat in Future..* And compensation to the Government Officials should reopen it again .... !!!! __ !!!! ....
Yeah send Gen. Kayani Letter? what written with bird's feather....??? Twitter is new invention. What you are living in Iron-age?
@Retaliation: dude i am an indian and a hindu. I apologize for the crap some fanatics have thrown. I knw my apology is not enough but all i want to say is that not everyone is same.
SO basically: "My bad lolz?"
They have been attacking pakistan for years...People just didnt realize it...
@Cocogrrrlll:
Please take your money and get out of our country. We don't need it. You need the money more than us because your country is going bankrupt.
tworry......
Time to ban NATO supplies forever.
@Huma Lady Iraq is thousands of kilometers away. Now these savages have started to attack your own country. Fear the day when Pakistan becomes another Iraq.
like Abbottabad, like Raymond Davis... .............
Let`s move on.
In the era of technological advancement one cannot beleive that border post was not marked. It seems that NATO is testing waters to plan future attacks on Pakistan. Retaliation is absolutely needed and hit drones down to show them how good we are. Otherwise people will think of their wasted investment on PAF.
mr.moderators if u go to indian websites v see hateful comments against Pakistan and our religion even on such issue and Our (Pakistani replies are screened out)..........but here even they r allowed to bark and v just see...........and continue to see........
The Republicans have been trying to nation build for fifty years. This is another example of America as a failure. Time to cut the defense budget, quit nation building, and bring our troops out of 23 nations. We have been beaten by men with sticks since Vietnam. We are arrogant losers.
This NATO attack is nothing but very intentional, how can they justify this attack, did they think that Mullah Omar is in the check-post of what.
Pakistan should not retaliate officially, but they should instigate Taliban to do the job for them. Pakistan should withdraw from the war, shoot the drones and help Taliban gain the supremacy again. That should be a fitting response to USA and INDIA. All Indians who can do that re-construction job in Afghan should be sent back; the girls should not be in the school like in medieval ages;
A Taliban Afghan is always was and always will be good for Pakistan. Democracy will not work i this part of the world. USA and INDIA please understand and back-off.
Nato apologies on twitter? This betrays even more cynicism about the massacre. No one has to be their ally
Is this a joke!! these guys need some serious medical attention with a military reply from pakistan!
Is it possible that the attacks were carried by "Non-official actors" ?
Its time we got out of Pakistan completely. Its time we cut all aid to them. Let them drown, burn and be buried by their own backstabbing stench.
Things will come in a normal position after few days. U can see that after few days another drone or jet fighter come into the territory of Pakistan to range the Pak army. Point is that when we will wake up!!!!!!
This is a very sad incident. My heart is full of sympathy for the Pakistan Army. NATO chief should have sent an official letter of apology to General Kayani.
what about an apology to 1 million dead Iraqis?
Pakistan should bomb NATO bases all over Afghanistan and we should apologize on Facebook, twitter and other social networks.
No need to give condolences. These are terrorist
Yes its all rather sad !!! condolences have been offered some funds have been provided for the families and now let return to business on hand !!! Yes of course there will be investigations and actions will be taken too !! But business of eradicating the terrorists must continue and if there are Safe Havens and Strategic Assets with Pakistan, than they will have to be dealt with, as Pak Army will not deal with them !!! Period. By the way, i don't see any support or mesages of condolences from any Muslim, Arab Nations, nor from that all weather friend across the border in China !!!! Why??? Perhaps they too have started recognising the flaws with Pakistan and its policies!!!
Its highhh time dat the Army chief stops giving statements dat such attacks will not be tolerated and starts responding..we have politicians for giving the statements..For Gods sake atleastttt PERMANENTLY BLOCK nato supplies..dats the least u can do????
seriously?
His condolences no enough
Not even an apology???
