Peace and conflict: Jerusalem belongs to three faiths

LAHORE:

Current development had overshadowed the history of peace and respect between Muslims and Jews, said Dr Iftikhar Salahuddin in Jerusalem: A Journey Back in Time.

AlHamra Hall was packed to capacity for Jerusalem: A Journey Back in Time on Thursday. The showing was a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Sanjannagar Education Trust.

The play was produced by Tehrike-i-Niswan, an organisation that works to raise awareness about women’s rights through theatre. The group has produced over 50 plays.

The play examines the history of Jerusalem. Director Anwar Jafri employs narration, photography and dance by Sheema Kermani.

Dr Iftikhar Salahuddin’s photos and narration are an integral part of the play. The play also casts an eye at sufi mysticism.

Dr Salahuddin narrated personal experiences from the city. Dr Iftikhar Salahuddin spoke about Israeli security forces checking his group but being fair to them. He said Christianity, Judaism and Islam - the three major religions - had all left their mark on the city. Tickets for the fundraiser ranged from Rs500 to Rs2,000.
