RAWALPINDI:

So what if she was not in her native land for Thanksgiving? The US ambassador’s wife, Dr Marilyn Wyatt, still made the most of the occasion by distributing food among women and children at the Eid Gah Sharif shrine in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

“Since, we do charity on Thanksgiving back in America, we decided to distribute food here as well on the eve of Thanksgiving to carry on with the tradition,” said Dr Wyatt, while talking to media. Wyatt said she had visited the shrine with her husband Ambassador Cameron Munter before as well. “We like the work they do and their activities for the poor people, so we decided to come here for Thanksgiving food distribution,” she added.

Dressed up in traditional eastern attire, Dr Wyatt met with the caretaker of the shrine Pir Naqeebur Rehman and his wife, who took her around the shrine. Dr Wyatt also paid her regards at the shrine. Later, she was led to the main compound of the building, where she distributed charity food among women and children, including madrassa students gathered there.

The food she distributed was prepared by the shrine management.

Dr Wyatt spent over two hours at the place and socialised with the women of the family of the caretakers and the others. She was welcomed warmly by young girls and children in particular.
