Pakistan number one professional golfer Shabbir Iqbal will look to extend his winning run in the Sindh Open Golf Championship

KARACHI: Pakistan number one professional golfer Shabbir Iqbal will look to extend his winning run in the Sindh Open Golf Championship that starts tomorrow at the Arabian Sea Country Club.

Iqbal, who claimed the CNS Open Championship last week and will defend his Sindh Open title, is expected to get tough competition from Matloob Ahmed, who finished runner-up in the CNS Open.

Experienced golfers, Muhammad Munir and Muhammad Tariq will also be seen in action in the three-day competition.

A total of Rs1 million will be at stake in the professional event, along with prize money amounting to Rs100,000 that will be offered for the amateur and senior professional competitions, according to tournament coordinator Tariq Riaz.

Riaz claimed that around 100 golfers are expected to take part in both the events. Waseem Rana and Manzoor Ahmed will be defending their amateur and senior professionals titles respectively.  Raz also announced a Suzuki Swift car for the winner of hole-in-one in the professionals event.

Pakistan in Sri Lanka  Amateur Championship

Ali Hai, the country’s top amateur golfer, will partner his teammate Muhammad Safdar as they take part in the Sri Lankan Amateur Golf Championship that will be held in Colombo from July 26. Hai, who was runner-up in the 2008 edition, said that he was looking forward to the world ranking tournament.

“I am aiming for a good show in the event in a bid to improve my world rankings,” Hai told The Express Tribune.
