Faisal Raza Abidi appointed new PPP Karachi President

Abidi replaces Najmi Alam as president while Mir Ismail Brohi replaces Saeed Ghani as general secretary PPP Karachi.

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Senator Faisal Raza Abidi as president of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi Division and Mir Ismail Brohi as general secretary on Thursday.

Abidi replaced Najmi Alam as President while Brohi replaced Saeed Ghani as general secretary of the PPP Karachi division.

A notification has been issued in this regard.

Zardari made the new appointments after dissolving the PPP Karachi division earlier in the day, removing all office bearers of the division in wake of party restructuring.

Senator Abidi, an outspoken leader and a close aide of Zardari said he would strive to revive the PPP in Karachi.

Fact file: Faisal Raza Abidi

Abidi contested the 2008 general elections from NA-253 against MQM leader Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi but lost to the latter.

He has been a part of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) since 2008 and member of Senate since 2009, where he is a member on the following standing committees:

-Information Technology and Telecommunications
-Labour and Manpower
-Communications
-Environment
-Defence and Defence Production

His tenure ends in 2015.

Besides politics, Abidi is also a prominent businessman in the import & export sector. He currently resides at Pearl Continental Lahore while also owning residences in Karachi and Islamabad.
