The situation is so bad that even a senior person like Brigadier (Retd) Samson Sharaf, hitherto known only as a fellow-traveller of the Deep State, now boasting the grand title of member Central Executive Committee Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and spokesman for defence and security or some such, arrogantly dismissed my complaint to him in these words: “Kamran please do not jump to score brownies. This is a cyber world with all sorts of people and Trojans’.
Brownies? Trojans? The man in question who writes out of Canada and whose motto is: ‘I live and die for PTI and Imran Khan’ has been heaping abuse on me since November 6. If those tweets were not his, how come he did not notice his account had been hacked for over 10 days when my eye caught the offending tweets?
This is pathetic, Imran, and shows the conceit that has gripped your party just because of one successful jalsa. Well, what happens if you have another big rally? Will your followers seek out those of us who do not agree with you and shoot us dead? Is this the level of tolerance you people have for your detractors? What happens if you come to power and someone criticises you? Will you put them into concentration camps?
Indeed, what will happen in the immediate future when other politicians open up their heavy artillery on you, as I cautioned two weeks ago? What then? Will the PTI set fire to the whole blessed country? What you and your supporters must understand is that you have to have a big heart and very thick skin to succeed in electoral politics. Dammit, your people are sounding like Hitler’s SS.
Just ask your press wallah to go back into my archives and see my attacks on Mr Nawaz Sharif and on President Zardari, even on the much missed, much lamented Benazir Bhutto! In stark contrast, I was most gentle with you, and yet I am called all sorts of filthy names? And other, more senior columnists than I? Watch it my friend, otherwise these people will destroy you.
And now to, what else but the latest storm to engulf our conspiracy-ridden country where everything has to do with deep, dark doings hatched by the CIA/RAW/Mossad/Teletubbies/Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd combine. As an immediate result of which our ambassador to the United States, Husain Haqqani, has offered his resignation if it will help lay to rest this Mansoor Ijaz-fuelled crisis. Let us try and understand some of it, in Mansoor Ijaz’s own words.
This is what he says in his article published in the Financial Times: “Questions about the ISI’s role in Pakistan have intensified in recent months. The finger of responsibility in many otherwise inexplicable attacks has often pointed to a shadowy outfit of ISI dubbed ‘S-Wing’, which is said to be dedicated to promoting the dubious agenda of a narrow group of nationalists who believe only they can protect Pakistan’s territorial integrity.
“The time has come for the state department to declare the S-Wing a sponsor of terrorism under the designation of ‘foreign governmental organisations’. Plans by the Obama administration to blacklist the Haqqani network are toothless and will have no material impact on the group’s military support and intelligence logistics; it is the S-Wing that allegedly provides all of this in the first place. It no longer matters whether the ISI is wilfully blind, complicit or incompetent in the attacks its S-Wing is carrying out. The S-Wing must be stopped.
“The ISI embodies the scourge of radicalism that has become a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
“The time has come for America to take the lead in shutting down the political and financial support that sustains an organ of the Pakistani state that undermines global antiterrorism efforts at every turn. Measures such as stopping aid to Pakistan, as a bill now moving through Congress aims to do, are not the solution. More precise policies are needed to remove the cancer that the ISI and its rogue wings have become on the Pakistani state.
“Pakistanis are not America’s enemies. Neither is their incompetent and toothless civilian government — the one Admiral Mullen was asked to help that May morning. The enemy is a state organ that breeds hatred among Pakistan’s Islamist masses and then uses their thirst for jihad against Pakistan’s neighbours and allies to sate its hunger for power. Taking steps to reduce its influence over Pakistan’s state affairs is a critical measure of the world’s willingness to stop the terror masters at their very roots”.
And now his rebuttal of “press releases, op-ed pieces and editorials in the Pakistani press regarding the Memorandum, my role in delivering it, the expected denials of the Foreign Office”: “I have withheld, pending an official investigation by certain organs of Pakistan’s government, names, telephone numbers and email addresses of those involved — this data will only be provided to the official bodies who request them from me and who demonstrate their independence and concern for learning the truth from these facts. The memorandum will remain out of public view unless the official bodies of Pakistan’s government deem it appropriate to release it”.
Er, does Ijaz mean that the “certain organs of Pakistan’s government” that will carry out an ‘official investigation’ in this matter are the exact same ‘narrow group of nationalists who believe only they can protect Pakistan’s territorial integrity’ and ‘terror masters’ who should be stopped by the United States ‘at their very roots’?
Dictionary meaning of the ‘smell test’: An informal method of determining whether something is authentic, credible, or ethical, by using one’s common sense or sense of propriety. This whole tamasha does not pass the smell test.
(To be concluded)

What political party can you name whose workers/ members/ worshippers arent as abusive, vulgar etcetera etcetera as PTIs'? I am not an IK fan but it is by far the most cry baby, and sadly the most used argument, against imran khan that i have observed. 'o please imran control your supporters. Oh how abusivvvee' 'oh they are irritating'
Come on!! This is nothing short of 'burgerism' itself. Every anti-Ik article starts with the SAME whining.
Surely for the likes of kamran shafi, teenagers shouldnt be something to bother him with his experience and everything? For heaven's sake, stop crying about his supporters behavior, or else, name a party whose supporters are civil, mannered, not loud, rational and who smile when their leaders are criticised. Pipliyas (ppp workers as i call them) worshipped benazir, noonis cannot let anything cast their leaders in a negative light, and dont even alk about Mqm (altaf ka jo ghaddar hai wo mout ka haqdar hai). THAT doesnt bother anyone but an Online comment by an IK fan does. Strange.
Personality worshipping is pathetic, demeaning, AND a part of our politics. Take it or leave it. Deal with it.
mr shafi please stop writing politically motivated articles.
Major sb. With all due respect, i will request you to apply smell test on all tamashas going on in pakistan, including zardari and his supporters, nawaz shareef and his supporters, altaf hussain and his supporters, imran khan and his supporters and then enlighten us about who score what? If any one will score higher than imran khan and his supporters, my vote is for them. Also please spend some time writting about electricity shortage, PIA, Steel mill and RAILWAY bankruptcies. Also write about achievements(if any) of the government of party that you support. PPP? Also i would like to hear about economic initiatives of this great government, education policy, law and order policy, industrial policy, tourism policy, rural development policy etc. thanks
Lahore jalsa was most organized, disciplined jalsa in history of pakistan. Attended by large numbers of women, and elderly. While a huge number of participants were young men, nobody harrassed women, nobody broke any structures and plants, nobody burnt tires, nobody pushed anybody around. For me that is good enough proof how pti has most civilized and mature supporters in history of pakistani politics. Now saying that every single person who associates himself with pti is not an angel is quite ridiculous as even followers of prophets were not all perfect. We are humans, some of us are better than others because they have better character. PTI has no senator mushahid ullah khan in its ranks. Regards.
Mr. Shafi, please refer to any of your article against corruption mafia of NawazSharif, Asif Zardari, Altaf Hussain. So called intellactuals only want to right against Imran Khan, ISI and Pak Army. For these journalist only thing bad about this country is that why people are practicing Islam. Instead of writing the root causes of extremism they always like to hit Islam to show some sort of superiority over 180 million people.
to all muslman pakistani
imran khan married to a woman born 4years (1974) before mr james and lady anabel were married(1978).
Have the ppl of islamic republic forgotten differentiation of Halal and haram.
Didnt imran knew of his bride birth year or do you people vote for a guy whom is oblivious of most ethical values.
How can you vote for such a guy.pakistanis are not anti religionist
@INSAF: Hazara Division, once used to be the stronghold of PML(N). Nawaz Sharif won the election without holding even a single rally or JALSA, this was the trust in his personality. BUT now the situation has turned 180 degree other way round. Mian Sahab's selfish approach during 18th amendment and subsequently, stabbing the people of Hazara on issue of KP, he has lost his credibility. Now the bulk of population, especially youth, is waiting for Imran Khan to visit Hazara and hold a historic JASA here. WE Fully support Imran Khan. HE IS THE LAST HOPE. Rest all is fraud. PPP and PML(N) are working in close hormony on the principle of "Tuhadi te phir Saadi bari".... SHAMEFUL..................GEO PTI.........
Just because you, or anyone else can't censor them it doesn't change the fact that they will have a negative effect on PTI and Imran Khan. It's not your responsibility. But, it's still going to cause harm whether you like it or not. Just like with the PTI flaws themselves, people just ignore them, hope they go away and think ignoring it will make it all better. Not happening. Maybe an easier comparison to understand how you guys make all people from the US out to be monsters because of a few opinions that may or may not be true. By your logic, drones shouldn't harm the US image at all as it's just a few people piloting and making the decision. Is that a close to home enough comparison for the density of your denials?
in a country where CM of Punjab says ke "ulta latka de ge"...what can you expect from normal people!
you can't hold PTI or IK responsible for someone else's deeds...it is indeed true that you can't control anyone on the cyber world...learn to live with it and in time such things will go away...we condemn use of bad language!
This is because majority of PTI supporters are immature
Do you want me to go out to each supporter and force CENSORSHIP on his opinion. It is called a notion of Freedom of Expression, which i must admit is NEW in Pakistan, the core philosphy that Pakistanis lived by was "I am right and you are Wrong" is now challenged on the online platform, in the drawing room it has resulted in a shouting match, but in both situations online is far more peaceful versus the occasional mukka-bazi [or for that matter the guns drawn style of thuggery] No one is here to shoot you, and I assure you no one from PTI will ever, PTI is not a militia party. But in a debate, understand the fact that it is as much as MY right to defend as it is YOUR right to argue. People have to learn the boundaries of "going over board" some do, some will learn. But you cant put the onus of going over board in some random discussion on Imran Khan and PTI. Think about the debate in the context of freedom of speech? would you rather preach a censored society - or a society watchful and vocal of the wrong doings around itself and vocal enough to defend his/her positon... Take a moment to think about it - on FB if you dont like someones attitude or misbehavior BLOCK him [ I do that very often] but i dont go whinning and crying to 9-0 or Bilawal housr or Raiwind to shut him up. as they are arguing for what they believe in but it is MY right to not hear him as its my FB profile and it is my BLOG Freedom of speech should NOT be stopped no matter how distasteful it might actually be, but if someone cannot respect the decency and civility of a discussion then YOU should block and ignore him, but to whine about how it may badly reflect on the party, it like creating another mountain out of a mole hill and using it to mudsling "I just found another excuse to NOT support Imran Khan" how can Imran khan or PTI stop its thousands of supporters, CENSOR FREE SPEECH, then you all would start screaming foul on that too.....
It's a pity that many PTI supporters appear to have zero tolerance for any criticism. Perhaps it because of their youthful age and the antagonistic culture that they have grown up in.
True democracy, which they all claim to aspire to, is all about tolerance of opposing and conflicting views. I hope with time they will learn to temper their views with a dose of patience and maturity.
I agree with Ali 100%. So how do we know the "live and die for IK" dude from Canada is actually what he claims he is? He might be Atta ul Haq Qasmi's or Irfan Siddiqui's twin brother as far as I'm concerned.
Imran Khan and Dr. Alvi have strongly came down hard on the issue. No PTI office-bearer has ever abused anyone and the people who will be running the party would never do such a thing. Imran Khan and Dr. Alvi has never reacted to below the belt attacks in a vulgar way. Are we naive enough to assume that the FB zealots have any role in the actual policy or working of PTI?
Guys keep focus don’t lose hope, A lobby is trying to divert the direction of people but this time we need to be vigilant and encounter all conspiracies against PTI.
I feel, another MQM in making with changed name of PTI and this time in Punjab and certainly the producers are born elite - military establishment.
PTI fans are pathetic, to them every person supporting them is an inlqaabi & every person opposing them is the enemy of Pakistan. Shame on them.
I stopped reading after the 5th para, Godwin's law has been invoked!
Sorry Sir, i beg your pardon if any of PTI member has hurt you.
(Virtual member of PTI)
Sir, people who are abusing you are those who dont't believe in IK per se, they just support him out of their hatred for the current political dispensation. What hope am i to have for Pakistan in such a situation. surley an insincere clever man is better than a sincere fool. May Allah have mercy on our country
The only thing i smell in this post is sour grapes! LOL!
call it stink test
my question is why is tolerance level of media as well as these article writers is so low. i have seen that whenever the media is criticised for sensationlism or media is put under trial they react in the strongest manner, similarly if one disagrees with these article writers they seem to get offended. you wrote something, people disagreed and might have a different opinion. but why do all these anchors, bloggers and article writers get offended. it seems that even the so called political analysts and writers were blown away because all their calculation and "deep insight" into understand Pakistans dynamics failed.
there has been a string and well directed attack on IK and PTI after the Oct 30 jalsa, when the supporters who finally see a glimmer of hope after so much darkness for the last four years. they are charged up and you have to give them that room. the youth was charged up after Bhutto got elected, people in 86 were ready to die for BB, literally. and how in Gawalmandi PML-N supporting butts gunned down anyone criticising the Sharifs.
the real issue is, tolerance level of the people is very low due to the condition Pakistan is in right now. Everything is dysfunctional. Everything. For godsake we have Qadris here. and it seems Pakistan is the only hope. if you still believe in the political set up we have now and it can deliver another 5 years, God help you.
Sir, the people who you are talking about are in denial. They refuse to accept reality, instead choosing to believe in ridiculous prospects under the guise of "optimism" and "hope". It is funny and sad to see what qualifies as optimism for these intellectually and logically "poor" people. People who refuse to learn hard lessons from history and present are taught hard lessons by the sooner future. Let time bring them to their eventual disappointment that's awaiting these balloon riders of laskar-e-hawai.
KS this is good looking JI, new production of islamofascism, it has been taught lies for last 1400 years. You would probably need another 1400 years to teach them humanity.
also, even if some of the pti followers have been rude or sth, why the anger and hostility towards imran khan? did he ask them to do it? no. does he even know his supporters personally? no! different people support him, all kinds of people. some may be less educated or less groomed or more aggressive or more hostile or whatever. i dont get this point of addressing imran khan so angrily. you sound like a spoiled, immature kid indulging a tantrum. as a senior journalist, you should refrain from spouting such pointless venom. it only makes YOU sound petty. thanks. moderator please publish.
Kamran sorry you are the one who have always been arrogant, contemptuous in your attitude towards pti supporters terming them as all as ignorant, naive as if only the naive, politically ignorant, ill informed people support pti and there could be no reason for supporting pti. this assumption and your attitude of superiority reeks of what you've accused the pti supporters of being. this article is one of many. no one objects to your content, we may disagree but you're entitled to your opinions as certainly, we are. but your tone is what we do object to. however , ive never commented on any of your articles regarding that except to request you to please do the character study of zardari and ppp, mqm and altaf bhai(log) , pml-n , et al kindly study and analyze them, do a comparison of sorts and then if u give ur opinion
Those who are opposing Imran Khan, takes no time to be tagged as 'dogmatic' and 'conservative'. While actually they don't even have a clue what secularism and progressiveness is? And as Marx said,'without organization working class is only raw material for exploitation'. So, as happened before, they will come to our senses once they pass this 'blind-moment'. Kamran saib you should just bear with them till they start calling themselves names

I can only sympathize with you Mr Shafi. Genuine supporter and worker of PTI doesn't do such things. As far a voter is concerned , the chairman and secretary general of PTI have given instructions to stay humble and to talk persuasively, one text is quoted above by a fellow reader. I hope you dont consider everyone sitting online and throwing mud in the name of PTI is considered a real PTI worker by journalists.
but how can mr. shafi say that those who,re using bad languape are PTI supporters. any body can write any thing on the net under false name. mr. shafi is writing for many years and he,s still writing on gossip. You,d advice imran Only after having concrete evedence of PTI supporters.s misbehavior. You know using abusive languape in pakistan is so free that nobody feel ashamed . the languape that columnist nazeer naji used against ansar abbasi if naji was here in japan nonewspaper will publish his artical. but in pakistan he,s writing and appearing on tv as a journalist. mrit,s posible that opponent of kaptaan might be doing all these dirty things.
@junaid: "I don’t think that true supporters of IK can abuse anyone"
So there are TRUE Supporters and Non-True supporters? How should people determine that a supporter is 'not a true suporter'.
So all these people who pounce upon and attack anyone who disagrees with Imran Non-True suporters? If a Non-True supporter provides contriution to PTI will it be accepted?.
The party which associates itself with insaf-justice does not do justice. People it takes a lot of patience and humility in politics. You have to listen to criticism and it is the right of criticism that any columnist or journalist uses, right now Kamranshafi sahib your comments will be filled with comments against the article. If you can write better refering to the critics you are free to write. Many supporter of PTI have made biggoted comments against Kamran Shafi Sahib, dropping to shallow levels, I myself an insafian am deeply hurt. I thus now address Kamran Shafi as Sahib and believe the PTI is an emerging party and should listen to as much criticism as it can.
Infact sir imran's supporters are the ones who have excess to internet and like sources.... these people are mostly our english speaking elites.... so whatever you write against zardari or mr. nawaz sharif their supporters have no idea.... if you had been a columnist in an urdu journal then you would have realized that.......
Mickey, excellent as usual.
IK will learn the hard way.
dear kamran sahib. you have got to be joking! imran khan is supposed to assume responsibility for the actions of some Canadian who claims to live and die for Imran Khan because he has, God forbid, heaped abuse on you over the internet! whaou!!!
sir. I apologise if you were called any names or such by anyone in the cyber community. Saying that pti have on their website appealed for their followers to respond in the proper manner and language. However the internet is a big place. You cannot hold imran or pti responsible for every comment posted. Equally there are also many anti-pti posters on the web who abuse imran and pti. Comparing pti supporters to the Ss is a step too far. Maybe in the cold light of day you Will see how ridiculous it looks.
Unfortunately freedom of speech on the internet also leads to freedom of abuse. This is just the nature of the beast. I advise developing a thicker skin. Ranting in your columns Will just encourage further abuse. Like they say- don't feed the rolls!
kind regards
You say they use gutter language and hurt your feelings, but then you tell them to get thicker skin how hypocritical. The media has taken to mud slinging on Imran, all I have to say is that we can respond in the kind.
Sorry mate your telling PTI supporter to take the drivel hurled at them by the so called intellectuals and journalists on the chin. I cant recall any of your articles questioning the billions built up by zardari, sharif, and the rest of the corrupt status qou leadership and ther cronies in the army and bureaucracy.
People like you spin a good tale but fail to highlight the biggest problem this country is facing and that is corruption which has destroyed every institution withing this country and is the biggest obstacle to our development.
In other countries journalist are at the fore front of the fight against corruption. They highlight the abuses committed by ther political leadership, business men or civil servant but unfortunately in our case our journalists are in cahoot and will write articles praising ther pay masters in return for favors (e.g. posting as an ambassador - ata ul haq qasmi)
Saying all that you need to realize this is not 1997 when PMLN and PPP used ther cronies in the media to abuse IK and PTI, This time round they are going to get it back with full compliments.
Kamran sahib, intellectually bankrupt don't have either a sense of humour nor a sense of appreciation. I am afraid, you are talking to dumb n deaf people.
Interesting as always. Imran and the PTI are right now ' on a high ' and as one knows this does not last long. Then hopefully they should have their feet firmly on the ground and headed in the right direction. If not, then the political rubbish bin awaits. The Mansoor Ejaz - H.H. saga smells like rotten fish.
I'm reliably informed that on or around 22nd November we will all hear about the birth of "the Clean Party". This new party will consist of so-called political "heavy weights" who have been cobbled together by the boys of Aabpara.
The idea behind this party is to further ensure that the voters are hopelessly divided at the coming elections. Having a multitude of parties with none having anything close to a majority in parliament will always suit the mighty men of the Deep State.
It's only a few supporters who hurl abuse, and they are being reined in. Btw, kudos for equating over the top cyber activism with concentration camps. That was not at all wrong. I agree with ur logic that because some people are express their views in an offensive or vulgar manner on the internet despite Imran Khan publicly condemning the act, he should be dismissed as a politician completely. After all, we may have thieves, looters, murderers and devout criminals in power right now, its still better than some armchair analyst having to face criticism.
I don't think that true supporters of IK can abuse anyone. I am a die hard PTI supporter and fully respect all who criticise us. But plz only do constructive citisism.
