Security Measures: CCTV cameras to be installed in Gilgit

GILGIT: In the wake of a fresh wave of violence that tattered sectarian harmony in the capital city of the mountain region, the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) government has decided to install close circuit hidden camera in at least five localities to track down criminals, sources said on Wednesday.”The installation of hidden cameras will help track down criminals and maintain law and order in the city,” said an official, asking not to be named because he was not authorised to talk to media. The cameras, worth Rs20 million, will be purchased and installed as per a plan devised by security experts. More than four people have been killed and seven others have been injured in the recent incidents of sectarian violence, which began late in October. These include a hand grenade attack in the main market on Monday which left three people injured. The police say they have arrested three suspects so far in their investigations.
