Turkish Ambassador calls on Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE: Turkey’s Ambassador to Pakistan Babur Hizlan called on Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Saturday to discuss issues of mutual interest, cooperation and relations between the two countries.

Dr Asif Kirmani, Sharif’s political secretary, said that the PML-N chief had termed Pakistan and Turkey to be like a “covalent bond” and that the people of Pakistan considered Turkey to be their second home.

Sharif acknowledged and applauded Turkey’s help and support for the people of Pakistan whenever a natural calamity had struck.

The Turkish Ambassador also thanked the Government of Punjab for sending aid to help earthquake victims.

Shairf had visited Turkey during the last week of October and met with Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul. The Government of Punjab, after the 18th Amendment, has also signed a number of contracts and MoUs with Turkey.

Recently, the Government of Punjab has also been focusing on developing a transportation and a solid waste management system with the support of Turkey.
