Defamation Suit: Rauf out to fight Abdi Sher Ali

Abid Sher Ali, member National Assembly belonging to PML-N, an anchor and a private television channel were served with notices of a suit for damages worth rupees 20 billion.


Sindh Industries Minister, Rauf Siddiqui on Wednesday filed a suit alleging that in a television progamme that was aired on Oct 9, 10 and 13, Abid Sher Ali told the anchor that plaintiff Rauf Siddiqui had allotted a plot of Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate worth rupees 20 billion at throwaway price of rupees 1 billion.

Rauf Siddiqui maintained that on October 15, he through his counsel sent a legal notice to the defendants seeking a contradiction, an apology or in case they are ready to defend the allegations levelled by them, to produce proof of the alleged allotment. The suit which was duly admitted came up before an officer of the court who asked defendants to appear in person on Nov 17 to defend themselves or hire a counsel for the purpose.
