KARACHI: The Sindh Transport Department cancelled a notification it sent out in March 2011 regarding the replacement of the administrator of the Karachi Public Transport Society (KPTS). Ali Anwar Baber has been relieved of his duties and Shamsuddin Abro has been appointed in his place. On the directions of the transport minister, the former Sindh secretary of transport, Iqbal Bablani, who is also the chairman of the KPTS, had removed Abro and appointed Baber in his place. Abro challenged the decision through the Sindh High Court, as the transport minister has no legal authority to intervene in the matters of the KPTS, which is an NGO.  A majority of the governing body members of the KPTS had opposed the removal of Abro as well.
