Stuck in the ranks: Policemen go to court demanding promotions

50 assistant sub-inspectors file petition on delayed promotions.

HYDERABAD: Fifty assistant sub-inspectors, appointed in 1995, have challenged a delay in their promotions at the Sindh High Court, which summoned senior police officials on Thursday.

Sindh Inspector General of Police and the DIG Hyderabad Range, which includes 13 districts, have been asked to appear in court on November 15.

The petitioners, through their counsel Advocate Soulat Rizvi, pleaded that they have been denied promotions while their juniors and those from the Sindh Reserve Police have been promoted.

“Many of the ASIs from the 2002 batch, appointed through the public service commission, and the 2004 batch, have received ad hoc promotions,” the advocate contended. He argued that the assistant sub-inspectors have been overlooked and ad hoc promotions can only take place if senior officers are not available.

Rizvi claimed that even some of the police constables, appointed with the petitioners in 1995, have received promotions and become sub-inspectors. “This is in addition to the deputation of the policemen from Sindh Reserve Police to the Sindh Police.”

Justice Nisar Muhammad Shaikh and Justice Muhammad Tasleem fixed the hearing for November 15.
