‘DMG letter annoyed CM’

Express July 16, 2010

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has seriously resented the letter written by the District Management Group (DMG) Association seeking his permission to confront the Provincial Management Service (PMS) Association, The Express Tribune has learnt.

A CM’s Secretariat official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the CM had taken the letter as an affront. He said that Sharif had reprimanded the DMGA office-bearers for drafting the letter.

He said that along with the letter the DMG Association also presented a CD to the CM containing clips of both PMS annual meetings showing the PMS officers using abusive language against the DMG officers including the Chief Secretary, Nasir Mehmood Khosa. He said that the purpose of presenting the CD was to persuade Sharif to act against the PMS officers. However, he said that the attempt backfired as Sharif instead became annoyed with the DMGA.The letter addressed to the CM stated that the PMS officers had publicly maligned the DMG officers.

It further said that the DMG Association could retaliate in a similar manner but it would follow the guidance of the chief minister and the chief secretary.

It requested the CM to take necessary action against the PMSA or allow the DMGA to confront them on its own terms, “so that they (the PMS officers) are taught how a civil servant is expected to conduct himself.”

The letter further warned that the DMGA’s silence on the issue should not be taken as their weakness or admission of guilt. “We can respond to the abuse hurled at us but we consider it below our dignity to retort to such malice and slander,” the letter said.
