Bank alfalah: Aziz resigns while Bajwa takes CEO slot

Atif Aslam Bajwa previously completed a tenure as CEO at MCB Bank and then joined Soneri Bank last year

KARACHI: Bank Alfalah has decided to appoint experienced banker Atif Aslam Bajwa as Chief Executive Officer after Sirajuddin Aziz tendered his resignation on October 25, according to a notice sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange on Wednesday. Aziz – who joined the bank in 2001 and made his way up the ranks – cited personal reasons for his departure. Atif Aslam Bajwa previously completed a tenure as CEO at MCB Bank and then joined Soneri Bank last year for a seven month stint before leaving to join the Abu Dhabi Group.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mentioned that Atif Aslam Bajwa who has just joined Bank Alfalah as the new CEO also served a seven month stint as CEO at Soneri Bank before being ‘replaced’. This inadvertently creates the impression that Atif Bajwa was asked to leave. In fact, Bajwa tendered his resignation at Soneri Bank in March to later join the Abu Dhabi Group. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.
